Key Fobs & Remotes
A fob that stopped working, has a flat battery or went missing: we program, repair or replace car remotes and smart keys for many makes and models, right where your vehicle is parked.

When the buttons quit, we come to the car.
Programming a new fob
Most fobs do two jobs at once. The buttons lock and unlock the doors, and a chip inside lets the engine start. A new fob has to be paired for both, and we handle that for many makes and models with the programming tools in our van.
Some vehicles, electric ones among them, rely on their maker for parts of the key work. Share the make, model and year first, and we’ll say up front where yours stands.
Repair before replace
Not every fob needs replacing. Worn buttons, a weak battery, or a fob that went through the washing machine can often be fixed, and a repair usually costs less than a new fob.
Once we’ve had a look, we tell you which choice makes sense for yours.
Still have one that works?
Then what you need is a second one, not a replacement. That’s a spare car key job, and it’s far simpler than replacing a fob after the last one has gone missing.
How fob service works
Tell us the symptoms
Share the make, model and year, and what the fob does or doesn’t do: dead buttons, no start, a remote that only works up close.
We check the fob first
The battery, the button contacts and the signal are tested before anything gets replaced.
Repair or program
We fix the fob when it’s worth fixing, or pair a new one with the car.
Test every button
Lock, unlock, trunk and the engine start, all checked at the car before we leave.

A blade that folds away into the fob when it’s not in use.
-
Keyless entry remotes
A separate remote on the key ring that only locks and unlocks, programmed to the car on many models.
-
Push-button start fobs
Proximity smart keys that let you start the car without turning anything, programmed for many makes and models.
-
Buttons and batteries
Worn button contacts and flat coin batteries, when the rest of the fob still works.
-
Water-damaged fobs
A fob that went swimming or through the laundry can sometimes be cleaned up and brought back, depending on how long it stayed wet.

Key fob questions
Why did my key fob stop working?
The usual causes are a flat battery, worn button contacts, water inside the case, or the fob losing its pairing with the car. We test it at the vehicle to find out which one it is.
Is a dead fob always a dead battery?
No. A fresh battery is the first thing to try, and it brings many fobs back. If the buttons still do nothing after that, the trouble is usually the circuit board, the contacts or the pairing.
Can you fix buttons that stopped working?
Often, yes. Worn button contacts can usually be cleaned or repaired, so you keep the same fob your car already knows.
Will my push-button car start if the fob battery dies?
On many cars, yes. There’s a backup spot where you hold the fob so the car can still read it, and many fobs hide a small key blade for the driver’s door. Your owner’s manual shows where both are on your vehicle.
Do you program remotes for trucks and vans?
Yes, for many pickups, vans and work vehicles as well as cars. Tell us the make, model and year and we’ll check before heading out.
