When every key is gone

Lost All Car Keys

No spare in the drawer and nothing left to copy? We work out a fresh key from the car itself. Our mobile locksmith drives to wherever it’s parked, cuts the key, programs it and gets you moving again.

A freshly cut car key and its remote on a truck’s dashboard

No key left to copy? We start from the car.

Why it’s different from a copy

A spare begins with a key that already works: we trace its cuts and add the new one to the car. With all of them gone, there’s nothing to trace. The cuts come from the vehicle instead, in many cases by decoding a door lock or by using the vehicle’s information. Then the chip in the head is programmed, because most modern cars won’t start for a key the computer doesn’t know.

If your keys are sitting on the seat behind a locked door, that’s a lockout rather than a lost key, and it’s a quicker visit.

Your car stays put

A car with no key can’t drive anywhere, and a tow to the dealer means lost time and an extra bill. Our van carries key blanks, a cutting machine and programming tools, so the work happens in your driveway, at the job site, or in the store lot where the keys went missing.

Once you’re back on the road

While the car is already hooked up for programming, adding a second key is easy, and you never land in this spot again.

Ask us as well whether the missing key can be erased from the car’s memory. Then it stops starting the engine for whoever picks it up. Many vehicles allow it.

How it works

What happens on a lost-key call

  1. Call from wherever you are

Tell us the make, model and year, and exactly where the car is sitting. Whenever we can, we give you the price before we set off.

  2. Proof of ownership

We always look at your photo ID and the car’s registration or title before cutting. Every customer gets the same check, and it protects you too.

  3. Cutting and programming

The blade is cut in the van, then the chip is paired with the car using our programming tools.

  4. We test it before we go

We start the engine, try each door and press every remote button, so you know the new key works before we pack up.

Before we arrive

What to have ready

  • Photo ID

A driver’s license or other photo ID with your name on it.

  • Registration or title

If the papers are locked inside the car, that’s fine. We open the car first and look at them before any key is made.

  • Make, model and year

That’s how we know which blank and remote to load, and whether your vehicle needs anything unusual.

  • The exact spot

A street address, a store name, or the row of the parking lot. It saves time hunting for the car.

  • One key or two

Decide whether you’d like an extra key cut during this visit. It’s far easier than going through all this again later.

Deal

Make it two keys while we’re there.

  • 50% OFF Your second car key or remote Car keys and remotes only. When we make two car keys or remotes for the same vehicle on one visit, you pay half price for the lower-priced one. A key with its matching remote counts as one.
FAQ

Lost car key questions

Does my car have to be towed to a dealer?

No. The car stays where it is and we come to it, and most lost-key jobs are finished right there. A few vehicles, including some electric ones, need the maker for certain key work. If yours is one of them, we say so when you call.

What proof do you need that the car is mine?

Photo ID plus the registration or title, every time, before we make a key for a car with none left.

Will my lost key still start the car if someone finds it?

It may. A lost key stays paired with the car until the car is told to forget it. On many vehicles that can happen while your new key is being set up, so ask about yours.

What if my car is push-button start and every fob is gone?

On many vehicles we can still help: proximity smart keys can be programmed from scratch on a lot of makes and models. Give us the make, model and year first and we’ll confirm before we set out.

What if my registration is locked in the car?

It happens a lot. We open the car with proper entry tools, you take out the papers, and we check them before cutting your key. Opening the car to reach the papers costs nothing extra.

Lost every key? Call from the car.

Have the make, model and year handy when you ring. We share the price up front whenever possible, then head straight to you.
